2025 - Vent Flow & Gas Migration Remediation

Gas Migration Eliminated with Innovative Abandonment Solution

Tristar recently executed a technically demanding well abandonment project in northern Alberta, resolving long-standing gas migration and vent flow issues that had persisted despite multiple previous interventions. Leveraging detailed well reviews and advanced logging diagnostics, Tristar successfully pinpointed the exact source of the gas. Rather than relying on conventional perforation methods, Tristar employed a more precise and effective section milling technique to remove casing at the gas source. This allowed full circumferential access to the formation, significantly improving the cement bond and the likelihood of a permanent seal.

Following the targeted section milling and cement squeeze, the gas migration and vent flow were fully eliminated, restoring the environmental integrity of the wellsite. This innovative approach enabled the client to meet all AER abandonment requirements and close the project with confidence. Tristar’s ability to deliver tailored, high-performance solutions for complex abandonment scenarios reinforces our position as a leader in well integrity and environmental remediation across Western Canada.
